Abilene Shakespeare Festival continued
Comedy of Errors:
June 23, 25, July 1, 2011 (Talk-back June 25) • Culp Theatre
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Gary Varner
Imagine you’re on an island, unaware that your twin brother is there as well. Imagine further that your brother’s wife mistakes you for him—but not before you’ve tried to romance his wife’s sister. Director Gary Varner takes an innovative approach to Shakespeare’s funniest farce about mistaken identity using only six actors and inventive staging. The Comedy of Errors will be a theatrical event full of energetic slapstick in this lightning-paced comedy.
Much Ado About Nothing:
June 24, 30, July 2, 2011 (Talk-back June 30) • Fulks Theatre
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Adam Hester
Beatrice and Benedick battle it out in a war between the sexes, as Dogberry spouts malapropisms, and others pull practical jokes or villainous plots. Shakespeare’s template for the modern romantic comedy hits all the right notes with witty repartee, verbal sparring and more than a hint of romantic attraction. The Bard is at his fun-loving best in this raucous comedy.
